A unique opportunity not to be missed!
For the first time in Singapore, US hospice physician and end-of-life doula Dr Aditi-Sethi will be in Singapore to conduct a series of lectures and workshops to share her expertise in journeying meaningfully with end-of-life patients though non-clinical support such as legacy work, end-of-life doula companionship, grief support and education.
With the number of lonely patients growing over the years, the Assisi Volunteer Management Team will also share practical knowledge on how to develop, implement and sustain a NODA volunteer programme so that the eldercare sector may gain insights on how similar programmes may be implemented within their own organisations to support lonely patients on their final journeys.
For communities supporting families at end-of-life, it can be very challenging to engage in conversation with bereaved families. The public lecture featuring Aditi with the Assisi Grief & Bereavement Care team will share expertise on how to set up a Grief & Bereavement Service to support bereaved caregivers. Participants will get to learn a variety of techniques used for engaging in difficult conversations about grief and loss and also understand how religion and culture can impact patients’ views and decision-making.
The programme is supported by Community Care Manpower Development Awards (CCMDA). This symposium is offered at no cost to participants.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This series is for healthcare professionals, allied care professionals, volunteers, social workers, counsellors, faith-based communities who support families at end-of-life care.
Dr. Aditi Sethi, MD, is a Hospice & Palliative Medicine specialist practicing in Asheville, NC, with 15 years of experience. A rare hybrid in healthcare, Aditi is both a hospice physician and an end-of-life doula who feels deeply the importance of supporting dying patients with not only medical skills, but with compassion and empathy.
In 2022, Dr Aditi founded the Center for Conscious Living and Dying (CCLD), which is part of the “Omega Home Network Model” run by community volunteers and works collaboratively with the patients’ hospice team to support end-of-life journeys.
She has practical experience in engaging community volunteers to support patients in their final life journey in a variety of non-clinical areas such as legacy work, end-of-life doula companionship, grief support and education.
Featured in “The Last Ecstatic Days”, where she inspired an entire community of strangers to care for Ethan Sisser in his final days, Aditi is an emerging and important voice for shifting our culture’s understanding and approach to dying, death, and bereavement care.
As a medical practitioner, she has also presented on palliative care at various conferences in Asheville and conducted numerous lectures for the US hospital system, hospice and palliative medicine fellowship program and other organisations.

Lecture: ”Bringing Death Back Into Life” – Inspiring Community Support for EOL Patients
Presented by: Dr Aditi Sethi
Death and Dying in the 21st century is a paradox. The Lancet, one of the world’s oldest and most prominent medical journals, recently published a 40-page commission paper which looks at death, dying and grief globally. Communities are challenged to think creatively to support rebalancing death, dying and grief. Join as we learn of various community-supported models around the world, specifically, the Omega Home Model, a US-based model that is designed for and focused on non-medical care at the end-of-life. Funded by the community and family support and staffed by volunteers, it works with the patient’s hospice (medical) care team to provide support for “residents” who are on their final life journeys.
With increasing pressure on the healthcare eco-system as the Singapore population continues to age (1 in 4 Singapore citizens will soon be over the age of 65), it would be worthwhile to explore a new community model where the local community can come together as a village to provide support for those on life’s final journey, in a way that reflects the spirit of the people and the culture of the local community.

Lecture: Building a Sustainable NODA Programme
Presented by:
Juliet Ng, Head, Communications & Community Engagement, Assisi Hospice
Lee Tien Sin, Volunteer Manager, Assisi Hospice
The No One Dies Alone (NODA) programme in Assisi Hospice was started in 2014 to provide companionship to dying patients who have neither family nor close friends to accompany them in their final hours, so that they do not die alone. Over the years, with an increasing number of lonely patients brought about by Singapore’s shrinking family structure, there is an urgent need for the community to learn how we can come together to support these people on their final journeys. The Assisi Volunteer Management Team will share practical knowledge of how to develop, implement and sustain a NODA volunteer programme so that the community may gain insights on how a similar programme may be implemented within their own organisations.
